Advent 3 December 2, 2009

Posted by Warren in Advent.

(Yes, I missed Advent 2, and there’s no way to go back and listen to a previous devotion. Actually, that’s a good idea — there’s definitely a sense of having missed something when you can’t go back and play catch up.)

Today’s Scripture was Isaiah 48:12-13.

“Listen to me, O Jacob, and Israel, whom I called! I am he; I am the first, and I am the last. My hand laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens; when I call to them, they stand forth together.

We tend to think of God and Jesus as our buddies. I’ve ranted about that before, so I won’t do it here, except to say that I really don’t like the “Jesus is my Homeboy” T-shirts đŸ˜‰

This passage reminds us of God’s power. We look around at all of creation, much of which we still don’t fully understand, and realize that God made it all with a word. Applied to our own lives, we see that God has the power to take care of us in every situation that we find ourselves in. Whether He takes care of us the way we want Him to is another story — but we are always taken care of, and always with our best interests in mind.

Because the God who created all of that (pointing outside) loves us unconditionally.
